Tasty Treats From The Killer Klowns From Outer Space!

3 min read

Friends, one of the things I always looked forward to writing during this Season over on the Retroist was the new houses and mazes that were being unveiled at Halloween Horror Nights at both Universal Studios Orlando as well as California. Obviously I realized that discussing houses based on An American Werewolf in London, Poltergeist, or even Child’s Play and Stranger Things was stretching the retro link – but the truth of the matter is I felt my fellow Pop Culture aficionados would find it interesting. Which is a long way I suppose in trying to explain why I’m writing an article about a gift I received from a good friend and supporter of the arcade. You see, one of my favorite cult films of all time just so happens to be 1988’s Killer Klowns from Outer Space – which has been featured at Halloween Horror Nights twice now I believe. I bring this up because I was brought back a rather tasty treat from The Killer Klowns from Outer Space at HHN – one that was cotton candy flavored with jelly beans. I may not be able to attend the Killer Klowns for Outer Space house this year but getting to devour the candy and keep the wrapper as a souvenir is a nice consolation prize in my opinion.

Now the truth of the matter is I’ve only been to an HHN event one time – back in 2005 for Tales of Terror with the icon of the event being the Storyteller. However I was so hooked after attending that year – just fascinated with the lore and concept of Halloween Horror Nights I would follow each year thanks to the then interactive websites and their games. The days of there being icons at HHN have gone away – being replaced with numerous franchises like The Walking Dead, Ghostbusters, Universal Monsters, House of 1000 Corpses and more. While I naturally do miss the Icons like Jack the Clown, the Usher, and the Undertaker – it’s hard to argue that having the chance to go through a house based on a favorite movie is not more important – and will pull in more business to boot. I totally miss being able to play the numerous games that were part of the HHN website – but if that money is now being funneled into letting fans of Killer Klowns from Outer Space come face to face with Jojo the Klownzilla and experience other moments from the film – then I say I totally understand and support their decision.

On top of the fact that Universal Studios has managed to transform the cult classic film by the Chiodo Bros into a Halloween Horror Nights event – from what I’ve seen online you also get to groove to the Dickies theme song to Killer Klowns from Outer Space!

Now… if I can just get more of this tasty candy and some of that Killer Klowns popcorn and that Kotton Kandy Cocoon Doughnut… or one of those sweet, sweet glasses from Halloween Horror Nights 2019.
