I have made this statement in the past on the Retroist site as well as on various social media sites but it bears repeating – Funko is going to rule the World. Whether it be through their licensing genius on all manner of pop culture properties for the Funko Pop line or Funkoverse games or even retro clothing options. I was out and about the other evening when I happened to drop in at my local Walmart – honestly I was looking for the K’NEX Pac-Man roller coaster set – but I had to stop and snap a few photos of these new T-Shirts to share with you. There were a surprising number of options to choose from if I am being totally honest with you – some you might not expect I should add. The likes of Back to the Future, Jaws, and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial might be expected since these “Funko Home Video” T-Shirts are mostly focusing on late 70s and 80s films. But then there is a T-Shirt for 1998’s The Big Lebowski… and while not films perse but they also released clothing for mock Star Wars cereals featuring Ewoks, Darth Vader, Yoda, Boba Fett, Chewbacca, and Stormtroopers. Funko has packaged each of their “Funko Home Video” T-Shirts to resemble the VHS boxes of old and as I’ve already stated – some of their choices are surprising. What I mean is when you visit your local Walmart, you aren’t exactly expecting to walk out with a brand new T-Shirt for 1986’s The Delta Force!
You can also pick up a T-Shirt featuring John Belushi as John “Bluto” Blutarsky from 1978’s Animal House – although I have no idea if wearing this shirt will immediately put you on the Double Secret Probation list.
If you are looking for another classic comedy, Funko has what you need with their T-Shirt inspired by 1982’s Fast Times at Ridgemont High – so you can show the World you were a graduate of Ridgemont High. Now bear in mind that while these “Funko Home Video” T-Shirts are nice nods to the films that inspired them – the movies themselves are obviously not included. Still… it is pretty nice to drop in at a local store and see a whole bunch of pop culture related products to choose from, right?
