The First Two Episodes Of ThunderCats Roar Are Now Online

Friends, this article is coming in a little late – had quite a bit of work to do in the Vault this afternoon and just wasn’t able to get away until now. It turns out that while I was busy trying to do some paperwork – Cartoon Network unleashed the first two episodes of their upcoming ThunderCats Roar animated series. I will admit I thought I heard something in the air earlier… it sounded like thousands of people gnashing their teeth and pulling their hair out in outrage. It wasn’t until just a moment ago I realized it was the reaction to the preview for ThunderCats Roar – while the comments have been disabled on the Cartoon Network video I believe that the 5,000 downvotes are a sign that fans of the original series aren’t quite accepting this new take on the ThunderCats.

It appears that the first two episodes of ThunderCats Roar are online and available to watch for free – just follow the link to Cartoon Network here. The most assuredly lighthearted series from Victor Courtright (Pickle and Peanut, Yo Gabba Gabba!) seems to almost be a parody on the animated series that was originally produced by Rankin and Bass. I freely admit that I’ve not had the opportunity to watch the first two episodes for myself as of yet – but the animation style and humor reminds me quite a bit of the switch on another Cartoon Network series – I’m talking about Teen Titans which was followed up with Teen Titans Go!

ThunderCats Roar began production back in 2018 and in an Entertainment Weekly interview with Victor Courtright on May 18th of that year – he stated:

“I think the world that they built lends itself really well to comedy because of how silly and crazy and outlandish those ideas are and some of those settings are,” says producer Victor Courtright in the exclusive behind-the-scenes video above. “But at the same time, it wouldn’t be ThunderCats if it didn’t have super cool action elements because that’s what people came back to. It’s very much something that we want to lean on. So with the new show, we’re not walking away from the action in any bit. Every step we take towards comedy, we take two more towards really cool action scenes and explosions and lasers and actions effects.”

Thanks to Cartoon Network we can come to a decision ourselves now on the new ThunderCats Roar series after watching the two-part episode entitled Exodus. I will say this from checking out that first preview – I’m glad they are keeping with what appears to be the music from the original series. Much like with The Transformers and G.I. Joe – the score for the original ThunderCats by Bernard Hoffer is burned into my brain… and one that I find myself whistling or humming during work.
