Mattel Unleashes The Masters Of The WWE Universe… Wait, What?

3 min read

Friends, the other evening after getting off work at the arcade, I dropped by my local Walmart to pick up a film that a friend of the site and the Saturday Frights Podcast had written – Ouija Room by none other than Dan Wilder. Since I wasn’t on a schedule or anything I wandered through the toy aisle – mostly checking out The Transformers and the LEGO DC Comics minifigures. I passed by the usual assortment of Star Wars figures although no signs of characters from The Mandalorian… sigh… as well as Roblox and Marvel and DC Comics toys. I was just about to head out when I rounded the aisle and I stopped dead in my tracks – because on display in front of me was Mattel’s The Masters of the WWE Universe Grayskull Mania bundle. I quickly reached for my cell phone so I could snap a few photographs and share them with my fellow Masters of the Universe fans… just to make sure I wasn’t hallucinating or something.

For what it is worth, The Masters of the WWE Universe Grayskull Mania bundle comes packaged with both John Cena and Terror Claws Triple H figures. While He-Man might be billed as ‘The Most Powerful Man in the Universe’ – Cena has been dubbed the ‘Most Unseeable Man in the Universe’ and it appears that he has taken to carrying a similar axe and shield as the protector of Eternia. My days of religiously watching the WWE ended around the time that the late and great “Rowdy” Roddy Piper left the ring to focus on show business – but as I understand it, Triple H is not exactly a heel nor is he completely a face wrestler. For the purposes of The Masters of the WWE Universe however he is listed as Evil Skull King of Kings… so probably not a hero character, right?

I have to say the idea of mashing up of the Masters of the Universe and professional wrestling is a pretty awesome idea – although I should point out that this new toy line takes place on WWEternia instead of He-Man’s Eternia. I sadly did not see any of the actual figures in the store but looking online at the official Mattel site – they are producing toys for the likes of The Ultimate Warrior, Finn Balor, Sting, and apparently another Triple H… who looks like he is cosplaying as Shao Khan from Mortal Kombat. These figures apparently also are packaged with a comic book that sheds light on the conflict between the Heroic Superstars and the Evil Superstars in their battle for the fate of WWEternia.

I’m not sure how this slipped under my radar, but this line of figures and accessories was actually announced at the San Diego Comic-Con last year. While I might pick up one or two of the figures, I have to say that I am very impressed by how they’ve molded the ring to be similar looking to the ‘stonework’ of Castle Grayskull.

Thanks to Pixel Dan’s video from the floor of the Comic-Con you can get a closer look at some of the figures as well as a few surprises the toy line offers!
