Friends, the other day on Facebook I noticed a trailer that had been shared by a friend of mine – it was for an upcoming Star Wars game show entitled Jedi Temple Challenge. This game show features a pair of Droids as co-hosts – an R5-Series astromech droid along with protocol Droid AD-3, who is voiced by Mary Holland (Homecoming, Comedy Bang! Bang!). More importantly though as host we have none other than Ahmed Best as Jedi Master Kelleran Beq – of course Best is probably most known for his portrayal of Jar Jar Binks in the Star Wars prequel trilogy as well as voice work for the likes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars and recently Fallout 76. While this new series is obviously intended for a younger audience – it appears to me that Ahmed Best and the contestants are having a whole lot of fun… oh, did I forget to mention that Sam Witwer, who is no stranger to voice work on animated Star Wars series and video games, is voicing the temptation to the Dark Side of the Force in the game show?
Now Jedi Temple Challenge is going to debut on June 3rd on the Star Wars Kids YouTube channel as well as StarWarsKids.com – which I will admit I thought this was surely going to be on Disney+. Turns out there is a very good reason for going the YouTube route as StarWars.Com revealed the other day:
“With so many children and families home and looking to Star Wars for hope and entertainment, we wanted to make Jedi Temple Challenge available to as many young fans as possible by airing the series on our Star Wars Kids network for everyone to enjoy,” says Lucasfilm’s senior director of Online Content & Programming, Mickey Capoferri.
We have a little less than a week before the Jedi Temple Challenge debuts but thanks to The Star Wars Show you can listen to Anthony Carboni interview both Ahmed Best and Mary Holland on the upcoming game show. In addition you also will get to hear production designer Ryan Brett Puckett talk a little about his career and the designing of the Thilia, the frigate used by Jedi Master Kelleran Beq.
I might just be a big kid at heart but I really am looking forward to checking out the Jedi Temple Challenge next week – I’m also curious as to what kind of prizes these brave padawans might obtain for winning the challenge?
