Stranger Things Season 4 Teaser Captures Your Attention

3 min read

Friends, as Pop Culture Retrorama attempts to cover all aspects of both pop culture as well as things retro… there is no way that I can let the Stranger Things season 4 teaser that dropped yesterday pass without talking about it. To be honest I actually managed to miss the trailer until I had arrived at work – as the teaser trailer which is entitled From Russia with love… is only 50 seconds long it didn’t take me any time to watch it… then rewatch it… and watch it again. Just in case you are one of the minority that hasn’t had the opportunity to watch the Stranger Things season 4 teaser for yourself yet, I’ve provided it below.

Now if you have not managed to check out any of the seasons of Stranger Things – you might want to stop reading right this second. In the last episode of Stranger Things season 3 – fan favorite Chief Jim Hopper, played by the excellent David Harbour (Quantum of Solace, Hellboy) – appears to meet his end while destroying machinery that unlocked the gateway that led to the Upside Down. This machine was created by a group of Russian scientists – who had in fact secretly set up operations in Hawkins, Indiana… under the Starcourt Mall.

Of course considering it was a portal that the scientists were working on… and the fact there was no body found – I don’t think anyone felt that Hopper was really dead. For one thing a stinger at the the end of the third season of Stranger Things showed two Russian guards stationed in what looks like a military base in Kamchatka, Russia – grabbing a prisoner for an untimely end. As one guard halts in front of a particular cell door he is told by the other:

“No. Not the American.”

Which pretty much all Stranger Things fan felt was proof that Hopper had passed through the gate to Russia… and is now prisoner. That Stranger Things season 4 teaser proves that theory with The Duffer Brothers adding in a statement:

“We’re excited to officially confirm that production on Stranger Things 4 is now underway — and even more excited to announce the return of Hopper!”series creators Matt and Ross Duffer said in a statement. “Although it’s not all good news for our ‘American’; he is imprisoned far from home in the snowy wasteland of Kamchatka, where he will face dangers both human… and other. Meanwhile, back in the states, a new horror is beginning to surface, something long buried, something that connects everything… Season 4 is shaping up to be the biggest and most frightening season yet, and we cannot wait for everyone to see more. In the meantime — pray for the American.”

If I recall correctly it has been said that Stranger Things would go for five seasons – to my mind it appears that each season gets progressively darker. We will have to wait until 2021 though to find out the fate of Hopper as well as Eleven, Mike, Dustin, Lucas, Will, Max, and the other kids of Hawkins, Indiana. That provides more than ample time to stock up on Eggo’s and get ready to clear the time to binge-watch the upcoming season of Stranger Things!
